@sap, first welcome to CCF. Second, if you are talking about the linear feature connecting the last three digits of the date, I'm pretty sure that this is a scratch from circulation rather than a die crack.

On the most recent quarters, the date is below the surface (incuse) rather than raised above the surface. So a scratch on the surface will skip over the sunken letters and numbers unless it is a super deep scratch (or someone intentionally drags a thumbtack or something through the grooves).

On a typical older Washington quarter with raised letters and numbers, you are entirely correct, the scratch will cut through the devices on its way across the flat field.

Yes, Brand is correct, on this quarter the devices (the lettering and numbers in this case) are incuse, and the marks between the date are on the field above the numbers
