... it is not... as I researched, I discovered that Proofs were struck in Philadelphia in 1942. However, I saw another post regarding a 1975 no mint mark with proof like features which reminded me of this coin. I like it because it just has a different appearance and luster to it than any others I have found.

The mint mark I thought might be an rpm, but I could find no matches on vv, cc, or wex, so I must assume it is damage... what might cause this?

The reverse has what I believe is just damage, but I wanted to confirm that it is not some sort of lamination issue, retained lamination or something like that? I looked on error ref (https://www.error-ref.com/?s=lamination) but I'm still not sure how to tell if it is a lamination error, or if this is PMD, and if it is damage, then, again, what might cause this?

I'm trying to learn here, so I can get a better idea of what to look for and how to evaluate what I am seeing ... or think I am seeing.

Thanks for your help!

Not a proof, in 1942 the proofs were minted in Philadelphia no San Francisco.
This is a business strike with a mintage of just over 85.5 Million.

What I see on this coin on the reverse appears to be damage, not a lamination.
Determining what caused damage on a coin is relatively next to impossible. a coin is created in one way, but damage caused while in circulation is infinite.

Not a proof, not uncirculated, hardly even EF. Agree, reverse looks damaged. Just worth a few cents.

Been S do not mean it is proof. This coin is far from a proof coin.

Thanks. I knew it wasn't a proof and probably just worth a few cents extra due to low mintage, but thanks for the comments and the grading info...That's something I haven't looked into much yet... I figured it was maybe fine to very fine after checking out the link I found by searching this site (https://www.coincommunity.com/us_co...ln-wheat.asp

Not seeing a split serif on the mintmark—the die that struck this coin might have been a smidge damaged leading to the webs of metal connecting the ends of the letter S to the body.
