Hi everyone, I was reminded of this find when I read the " Texas Cent" post recently. The coin is normal size and doesn't appear to have been abused in any way it's just missing most of the outer copper layer. I've read about people using a corrosive to achieve this result but it normally would show heavy pitting which this coin does not. Any thoughts?

I have a feeling that it was altered outside of the U.S Mint. There's copper plating on some parts of the rim. It might have been chemically stripped off the coin. If you can manage to somehow get a reverse picture, that would be great.

Thank you for the responses, I can't imagine how or why someone removed the plating from the fields while leaving the raised rim untouched. Also why stop without finishing the job.

An accurate weight (to 2 decimal places) might prove interesting.
