Just wondering if anyone has ever seen this particular Gold Dollar. Have done extensive Googling without finding another. Any input would be most appreciated.

This is a really odd bird, yugotex. The US didn't start minting $1 gold coins until 1849, yet yours has a date of 1840. The obverse is crudely reminiscent of some of the California gold tokens issued much later, yet those did not have the reverse like yours. A real mystery.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

It's a very crude replica/ fantasy. The weight should be 1.67 grams for a gold dollar.

Agree w/you. Crude fantasy. But appears early & can't find another example.

With that weight, I'm guessing it's just yellow brass, as opposed to some of the "California gold" tourist/fantasy pieces which contain actual gold.

Agree that the wt makes it likely Brass...but, still seems to be an older issue...strange no others seem to be around.

Any thoughts on whether this could be a more modern Than 1840 spiel marke? Or does the one dollar denomination rule out that possibility?

Believe the dollar denomination (and the portrait) eliminate the possibility of it being a spiel marke. Generally looks to be of US origin.
