Hi, I am hoping to identify a coin that was found badly corroded, the site holds items that was located in the 1750s but was never excavated until late 80 early 90s, We have managed to get an xray of this coin and hoping to find coin experts out there to help us identify the image. The items are documented to have been buried before 1750 in what is known today as Manhattan new York and possibly dates back to mid or late 1600s shortly after English took new Amsterdam. Thanks you vary much Edited by coinidentifier 06/26/2023 2:02 pm

Hello coinidentifier and What is the approximate diameter? I'm wondering if it could be a British King George II halfpenny. These coins would have been circulating in the USA at the time.

@NumisRob Hey you are the second person to say the same thing, so I'm guessing that is correct, I can kinda see the resemblance in the facial structure but the letters seem different,i see a W where the R is suppose to be and a F where the I is suppose to be. thats why I'm trying to get another opinion because the first said the same thing lolol
to everyone else who cant see anything, might need to schedule a eye check up lol joking

Could be either half penny or the farthing, depending on the size/weight

What this image really needs is a threshold cut to change everything above a particular light gray point to white or a different primary color. Alternately, a color heat map of the original after it gets transformed to grayscale. I think it's easier to see the outlines in this attempt, but only if you get back farther from the screen or zoom out quite a bit. Otherwise you lose the forest for the trees.

Making it black and white def helps. Can I maybe see remnants of II REX from one to four o'clock? Or is that Pareidolia and wishful thinking?
