Can't find this anywhere. Is this some sort of Machine Doubling? Note how the letters in "United" are kind of crushed at the top. Beak is doubled somehow as is the entire date. I note that the vertical of the "5" is very narrow, but the other numbers don't appear to be thinner than normal. What is this? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I am pretty sure that it's Machine Doubling. You can see how the beak is reduced in size and how the doubling is step like in appearance.
Errers and Varietys.

The only digit that looks thin is the 5, though. I would expect the see the width of the other digits affected, which doesn't seem to be the case. I agree that tha doubling does have a flat, shelf-like appearance. Any thoughts on grade? Looks like a really nice coin to me, although I see some fine scratches to the left of date and left of eagle in the field.

I haven't seen anything like this. I searched all the FS varieties on the NGC site, no matches. New variety?, Forgery?, I don't know what to think! If genuine it looks to be in high AU grade. Just the slightest of rub to the eagle's breast, and I can't tell if the hairlines are from die polishing or if they cross the devices (cleaning). I digress to those more experienced with this series.

I note rim weirdness at 8:00 on the reverse and a strong fin around the right side. Perhaps a clue about what happened during the strike. I also think it's MD. Seems like such a strong RPD would be attributed by now.

Be careful when buying from Coins and Cards. I see many hairlines and when you get the coin it will look quite different from his pics. Yes I've been burnt. Impressive MD but that's what it is. I've had a couple.

Yeah, I was thinking about going for it, but the more I inspected the pictures, the more I was seeing all those small scratches on both obverse and reverse indicating cleaning and decided to sit this one out. As for so many cleaned coins, it's a darned shame. Interesting coin at the very least, but it'll sell for pretty big money, I'm thinking, and come back as details, cleaned from a TPG.

I'm watching it out of curiosity. Up to $450 with more than a day to go.

He has a way with just enough amber lighting to hide things. They look nice but beware.
