So I have had this coin for a few years now but don't know what happened to it. It has a mirror look to it. I'm not sure if it was cleaned or toned or if it is an error coin. I found it coin roll hunting. My phone is not the best at taking pictures but I cropped them Edited by CoinChicken 06/30/2023 07:41 am

To CCF! It might have been cleaned at some point, during its life.
Errers and Varietys.

Looks like it was handled with an oiled up set of fingers.

I have some that look like this. Almost looks like it was plated with copper, but the plating is falling off.

@ kurdlezuit: Sorry, BAAA, 1946 the cents was Cooper, so no need to plat cooper with cooper. LOL.

To me, it appears to be yet another circulated Wheat cent (this one on the 'light' side)--given the pics posted above. The last few months I've been going through another mountain of wheat cents I've had for many years, and I see this 'look' every now and then. Weights are always within spec, dates and mints vary.

Silviosi: I know it it is already copper. But that is what it looks like. As people did with the steel cents, to preserve or whatever. I look at this one and the one I have, and that is what it looks like. I will dig mine out, and post it on this thread later this evening when I get home. Clear close ups. One thing I will say though. Is the copper "plating" under a scope looks fake, to me almost looks like a paint or something.

to CCF! It looks like typical AU toning to me, with some original red mint color retained in the protected areas.

to the CCF and Coins can and do take on almost any color. It just depends on the environment they are exposed to.
