I believe this is an 1853-O no arrows Half Dime, although the date is quite weak. Do you see enough to confirm that the last digit is a 3? I might send this in to verify the date. Any chance it would pull a G-4 despite the weak date? It might detail due to the obverse scratch, although it's actually pretty minor given the size of the coin.

My speculation is that it is an 1853, but I'm not certain. I'll say that it pulls a grade of G-details (scratch). For reference, there's an ANACS-graded 1853-O No Arrows Half Dime on ebay with VG-10 details that has a similarly weak date.

The only other number the last digit could be is an 8, and the date position doesn't look right for an 1858-O. I would be happy if they confirmed this to be an 1853-O no arrows G-4 details.

Comparison and date position leads me to believe it's a 3. Position of the tops of the 8 and 5 are almost exactly consistent.

I'd also say 1853. The MM position looks right, along with the flaw in the top left curve of the MM. Not an expert by any means on the series, just comparing images.

 w/Blastenpene4 the positioning of the 5 is a giveaway that it 53. i think the coin would grade G details (scratched)

Thanks everyone. I'm more convinced that it's an 1853-O. Apparently the date is often weak with that issue. Here's one that actually graded VG-8 by ANACS (although probably overgraded).
