There is still a hair or a piece of bristle just above the 9 that is into the metal for over a half inch stretch and a quarter inch of it is sticking out. It looks so weird when you zoom in but looking at it naturally it has good luster and cartwheel. Also heavy heavy polish lines when turning under light. Very interesting.

@new, the doubling is shelf-like and serves to reduce the width of the design elements so I think that is Machine Doubling. Any chance you can add a sharply-focused picture of that bristle? Thx.

The only reason I was thinking multi struck is because without magnification you can clearly see flattened devices throughout the coin. If you look to the left of the numbers you will see what I am referring to. There are others that I believe are still into the metal as well. It looks as though it is a stronger fiber/ metal wire possibly? Dont want to touch it

You can see its original burrow into the coin where 15-20% of it has come up over time.

Very bizarre, Newbieee - I've never seen the likes of that before.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Me either, kinda started thinking it is over a 1922 since you can clearly see 2,2 next to the two and three. Ive got lost looking at lol. The devices almost look like a high relief without magnification

It's possible that the coin was lacquered and the bristle is embedded in the lacquer, not the coin. I had something similar on a Canadian half and was convinced it was retained strike through. ANACS conserved it and said there was lacquer on it; now all the bristle bits are gone. I couldn't tell that there was anything coating the coin, even under a microscope. Just another idea to consider.

I think it sat for a few hours but I just put it back under to make sure now that you mention it. Half of my collection was handed down and my great grandpa collected errors as well

I was initially thinking animal hairs, but the brush bristle and lacquer theory works too.
I agree with an acetone bath first.
