1946 D Penny Small/Large Mint Marks

I've attempted to research, but I've not found anything on two different varities, large & small. Any information would be helpful Thanks in advance! Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34401 Posts	Posted 07/13/2023 9:27 pm @sam, as the mintmarks were added to the die by hand at this time, it is quite common that the relative position between them and the date varies. Is it possible that this difference in distance is also causing one to appear a bit larger? It will save you time and frustration. You need an EXACT match though. Partial ones are non-collectable things like Machine Doubling.
