That's a bummer. Don't see hairlines, do we think this was dipped?

Quote: Don't see hairlines, do we think this was dipped? the only thing I can think is that the determined the coin was UNC then they looked at the surfaces and found them to be completely lacking luster coming to the conclusion that the coin was cleaned. remember we are seeing photos with quite a bit of glare so we don't know what the coin actually looks like in hand. i don't see anything except that would indicate the coin was cleaned other than dipped. there is some gung around the obv denticles at K4-K5 and the date. I'm betting someone attempted to clean that up but this not a harsh cleaning by any means. I've seen way worse grade straight

At least they came through on the 1861 Indian. Sometimes you've got to look at the bigger picture.

I don't believe it's been cleaned. Look at my original pictures. Is what it is, though.

The lighter areas around the date made me wonder if someone tried to remove the dark areas. Still like the look of the coin overall.

UPDATE: OK, you guys are going to fuss at me for wasting the money, but I just had to know. I cracked it out and submitted to NGC. Came back as MS61BN. Straight graded.

Pcgs seen something in hand, that's for sure. Hopefully you actually got rid of that verdigris before sending it in.

Congrats on the new grade! Too bad you had to spend more in grading fees to get there . . .
