Blastenpene4, that's a beautiful deuce! Can't really tell from the pics what's happening at 7KR. I wonder if acetone or VerdiCare would help with the discoloration in the date and rim at 5KO?

I may try it, Hondo, but I'm kind of inclined to leave it alone. Couldn't really capture the remaining luster, but it's there. Fields are really nice - almost no tics at all. Small die break angles down from the 5 and back up to arrow end. I wish I felt this good about all my buys, even though I stood tall on this one.

Think about it this way, Blastenpene4. By how many McDonald's lunches did you overpay? 1 or 2? You have a fine coin that you like, and that's what counts.

If someone tells you that $90 for this coin is expensive, don't listen to them. You are a collector, not a dealer. The coin is beautiful. I wouldn't clean it, don't try to remove anything if you don't have enough experience. Will you evaluate the coin in TPG or not ?

I doubt it, Slerk. Retail at AU58 is around $105. Just wouldn't make sense to spend $40 slabbing it. Even if it made it to MS60, that retail is only about $125. Very common date for 2 cent. I just liked the look of it, though, and I'm partial to Civil War issues. So much better than some really bad examples that folks wanted big money for.

I have not used Verdi-care, but having seen coins treated with it, would give it a try. Try one of those dark spots near the denticles as a test spot.

i'd be inclined to verdicare it. it may remove what appears to be a smudges on the surfaces
AU58.his is one i'd like to see in hand. I think $90 is ok for this piece. I like it and bet it looks better in hand

Verdi-Care may just help it, won't hurt it, just don't rub it or wipe it be gentle with a rolling motion using a Q-tip type of tool for application. I'd hit it with an acetone bath first though there is a little green goop on the recesses on the reverse, it will knock out any PVC and not harm the coin - swish around and leave to dry on a towel. Love the reverse rim Cuds I had missed that the first time I looked at it. Only thing I'm not happy with is the minor rim bumps visible on the reverse @ 1K & 6K as I said before, they are very minor so not a big deal at all.
