Thanks westcoin. It is amazing that Salmon owned 10 examples oh the NE Shilling, and an example of all 6 known varieties. His Massachusetts silver coin collection is listed here:

https://www.ngccoin.com/gallery/salmon/all/

It is an amazing collection that can be viewed in the Heritage database.

I feel fortunate to be a steward of one of them.

John and MaryAnn Agre from CRO, dealers from Mass., have put together a simple reference online to go from Noe designations to Salmon designations:

Thanks EricH and psuman08. This is the grade of the coin. Tough one to grade and have no idea what the criteria for grading for this coin are.

I briefly entertained the idea of picking something up from the Salmon auction but even bent and damaged coins went way above my budget. I'll have to live vicariously through your posts.

@kbbpll - Well, most of my coins like in a dark box tucked away securely so I enjoy my coins by looking at them online just like you do. I think CCF allows all of us to live vicariously through one another.

Well, this one came in fairly quickly and was able to make a quick video of it. Let me know if you have any further thoughts. Thanks!

really cool AI vid. the volume of background music is a tad to high and for me is a little distracting but overall I love it.

Thanks @panzaldi.

I had the opportunity to chat online with the previous owner of this coin and surprisingly he was only 26 years old. I mention it because, often we think that the hobby is weighted toward the long end of the age range and, here is an advanced hobbyist as well as a professional numismatist who is Gen Z. Being on CCF, I've met smart and accomplished people in this age range with a passion for coin collecting, as well as young, budding dealers, and I am always proven wrong when I start thinking that this hobby of ours is in decline. To me, it seems to have a bright future ahead.

Thanks @panzaldi. I also picked this up. They say: "buy the book before the coin" buy I apparently do things backward. This is not as updated as the Salmon book that westcoin suggested as it was published in 2002, but it was published by the Colonial Coin Collectors Club of which Salmon is a member.

Not sure if this is the same as the book, but same author and nearly identical title is online.

Edit: Apparently this is a 2001 text that became the book after revisions.

That is one Colonial type I would love to own..even for just a little while!
The one on my bucket list is a Sommer Islands Schilling.

That's 100% bucket list coin for nearly any collector, with amazing provenance to boot. To quote a certain legendary explorer, "It belongs in a museum!"

It's equally inspiring to hear that a younger person was the caretaker of this piece of history before you. There is much "doom and gloom" these days about the future of our hobby, but you can't always believe the hype.

I'm about halfway through my fourth decade of life and started collecting at age 5, and haven't stopped since. But when I go to shows like the recent TNA show here in Texas, I see folks from 5 to 85, and everything in between. I saw a LOT of teenagers or young adults at that last show, and not just following a parent around. A few dealers also had their kids helping out at the tables with sorting, taking in money, setting up and taking down display cases, etc.
