Hi, The coin came in a large group of Morgans I bought.
North/South line seems to go over the other line, East/West?
Would a scratched die create this effect?
Or attached metal to coin?
Thanks for looking and comments.

take care

With the smashed metal around it, I'm thinking a metal stamp. Silver is a soft metal, Stamp wasn't hard enough to effect the obverse.

PMD but the coin doesn't look that bad. I would take this over a harshly cleaned Morgan on any day that ends with a 'y'.

It looks like metal was gouged up from the surrounding area to create the X.

The barren areas around the X certainly seem to be areas where metal was moved to the create the X.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
