They are quite scarce as I have email alerts for them coming up on ebay. Only one listed ( which I bought ) in the last half year except for a screwball had a photoshopped one up for sale. Which I laughed at. Yours is obviously a good example. Looks about like mine, actually better.

I'd take a stab at giving it an CH XF grade. Would be AU but because of that scratch on the reverse I can't, but there are no established prices yet that I know of.
I would not sell mine for under $40.00 bucks unless I found a UNC one to replace it.

Don't sit and pout over that scratch, no big deal, look at the steps you got instead.
Super find. Tell me more how you found this!

YEEEEESSSSSSSSSS

This feels awesome! Being Cole317, I must again ask, as I always do.. Is it worth getting slabbed? Or just put it into a snaplock holder? Oh, and what would guess this is worth?

-thanks wheezydog, If it means anything, I dedicate this find to you

whoops I guess you answered my question as I was asking it. Well here's the story I'll try to make it short as possible.
After 8 boxes with no buffalos, and 3 or 4 boxes w/o any silver, this box really sucked, just a couple common dates like 54 and 57, and on the second to last roll I finally found a '36 buffalo. Other than that I thought the box sucked pretty bad. So just 20min ago I was rolling (yup I roll them ) the decade of the 90's and this is when I check for errors and BOOM 90D no Initials. If it wasn't for you, A few days ago telling us to keep our eye out for this, I wouldn't have found it. So thanks again Wheezydog!

So does anyone think It's worth slabbing, or just a snap lock?

I don't know which grading company would label it as a No initials.
That's your call. I would clearly mark my holder that it is a special 1990 D so you don't lose it later as an everyday one.

Nice find!

I do not like slabs, so I would just leave it in the snap lock. I must disclose that my intention is to keep coins, not sell them.

Is this something different from initials that are absent due to overzealous die abrasion or from having the corresponding recesses in the die face filled with gunk? It's my understanding that all such errors fall into one or the other category.

I do not know?
My guess is it is probably due to a die getting grease and metallic particles compacted into this area where the initials should show or more likely, the area was polished off the working die.
No trace of them in this example.
But I don't know much about it except they are either ignored in circulation and by most collectors, or they are truly very scarce.
Or both.

There is no established price I know of. I value mine at about $40.00 which could be high. A Gem BU one would be quite a catch. Probably easily a three digit coin?
