Got luck a month ago. Doin remodels of apartment buildings and folks just tossing perfectly good stuff away. A little dumpster diving has never been beyond me. Hopped in and came up with this beauty. 1910 s 10 dollar goolllllld. Obviously was a pendant at one time. Should I remove the casing ?

Thats a fantastic dumpster find - amazing actually.
If the casing is soldered to the coin I would probably leave it alone. If it's loose and can be opened up I would remove it.

If you remove the bezel, have it tested to see if it too is made of gold.

The clasp looks to be just an adjustable screw at the top and should be easy to remove. Makes me wonder what gets thrown out unknowingly all the time.

One of the Australian gold proof sets has what looks like a little piece of gold foil embedded into the wooden box. I was tossing one of these in the trash one day when I decided to dig it out for my collection. It turned out to be more than 3/4 OZ of 10K gold!!! I didn't know it was there so it was free gold. One wonders how many of these went into the garbage.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

you mean quote? you use the square brackets [ and ] in the first set of brackets type in the word 'quote , then paste the comment you want from an earlier post, then type another bracket and put in /quote then close the quote. Since I'm not a I cannot turn off forum code to show you directly, but I'll try. By adding extra symbol (that does not belong may make it clear for you. - I'll use the ~ thing. So: [quote~] this is the message to quote [/quote~]becomes: Quote: this is the message to quote
