I have received a large collection of asian / Chinese coins. I unfortunately have no knowledge of the coins. They were purchased from an estate in which the collector had owned a coin shop in the 1980's & 1990's. They had said he sold the majority of his collection before his passing. I will be posting quite a few more Chinese coins. This coin was in a envelope marked "Republic 50c Y-328" I was wondering about the authenticity of this coin as well as date / variety info & approx value. Majority of coins have been in brown paper envelopes for who knows how long. Diameter of the coin is 31.4mm. Edit - realized I had the wrong reverse photo Should be correct now s I've been collecting for a couple years... I have seen all the posts you made. I have to say if they are all genuine you have hit a jackpot. This coin is worth at least $500 in VF and around $1000 in XF. They are all rare types and should be worth a decent amount. However since they are so rare there are many extremely good fakes out there. I feel like these are real, but best send all of them to a grading service.

I appreciate the opinions! I was contemplating sending the 10ish nicest coins off to anacs for authenticity purposes but wanted to post a few here first to see if I could catch any "obvious" fakes if there were any. I will still post a few more today or in the coming days for a second opinion. A few of the coins have some ED spots so they probably should be conserved & anacs doesn't appear to remove / conserve ed spots so I would have to send it to either PCGS or ngc for that but was hoping they were genuine before I even started looking into doing that.
This collection also has 100's of old cash coins in varing condition with most having very little info on them included (he just had bags of them). Any pointers on what to look for on those?

Unreal. Most of the times when one mentions Chinese coins, chances are they are fake. Yours however have a higher chance of a happy story. Most if not all of them show good signs of being genuine. If you decide to keep them, that would be a good choice. Trust me, even lower grade or damaged examples are hard to come by. There are a couple that I am hunting and they are easily 4 figure coins.
Nice one!

very nice haul. So the Chinese can make real non-counterfeit coins.... Imagine that..

Those rubbed out areas on the ears look wrong to me as do the whiskers. It's possible the original owner didn't sell them off before passing (RIP) due to the same questions you're having. Have you run a magnet over this one?

Appreciate the replies everyone, I still have a handfull more nicer coins that I may post. Majority of coins left are cash coins, I have a few albums & some bags of them. Also a load of the copper ten cash coins (the ones with the dragon & the others with the flags). A few larger 10, 50, & 100 cash coins that I am skeptical of & some knife / spade money. He has about 200 cardboard envelopes, some of which are marked with what the coins are with the "Y" code as well as the "s" code. A few of the cash coins are in envelopes marked "fantasy" / "counterfeit". I was able to find a receipt in the box from a coin dealer in California which didnt go into specific coins but said 2 cartons Chinese coins, total paid amount $1500 & was dated 1979. I was told the collector was known to be a speculator and was keeping items he had thought would go up (such as stamps / comics / cards / posters / books / etc). I did also receive a large quantity of asian coin & paper money price / id books. Most of which unfortunately got wet and are musty. Have you run a magnet over this one? I did test the coin with a magnet & it does not stick to a magnet.

If I may suggest about magnets: I have different albums of fake Chinese coins with 10, 20 and 50 cents. One album of 20 cent pieces where all are attracted to a magnet. Another album has fakes where none are attracted.

Are these coins slabbed with PCGS Coin Cert Numbers? Or even if not slabbed, isn't there a PCGS trueview lookup number that should be with the images?
