received a coin from aunt whos up in age and has collected coins for years. a brief look up showed some crazy values on various examples while some were virtually worth little or nothing. there seems to be many slight differences that dictate the value and I do not understand the grading lingo so lamen terms apprciated. Im new to this world and was wondering what any of you think of this particular example. Thanks so much for any feedback.

@jdm, first welcome to CCF. Second, for sure this half dollar worth at least melt rather than face value due to the silver content. As to the grade, I suspect that we will need better pictures in order to fully evaluate. Try better light and maintaining a sharp focus and then new pics to this thread. Thx.

based on the later photos the hair on the top of the head and cheek appears to have some light circulation on it. the glare could be distorting that. the coin looks AU58 or MS63. I'm leaning AU58. full retail for it would be about $12 if AU. if its MS its only about $2 more so not much difference

I just cropped and oriented all your images correctly, in the future please do that before you upload.

you don't want to be touching the surfaces of a potentially valuable coin as doing so leave fingerprints that will dramatically reduce its value
