Hi! I am RickyO from Argentina, with yet a new question about collecting coins! Yay! :P

I have already this coin in my collection: Cuba 1953 25 centavos Martí anniversary

Is-It-Bad-To-Have-Toned-And-Untoned-Coins-In-The-Same-Set?

And I am interested to buy this other coin: Cuba 1953 50 centavos Marti anniversary

Is-It-Bad-To-Have-Toned-And-Untoned-Coins-In-The-Same-Set?

That is, I am trying to complete a type set. Right? The thing is, my 25 centavos is a toned coin, while the 50 centavos is silvery shiny. And I sometimes thing they wouldn't look right together. Either have two toned or untoned coins, but a set with toned and untoned coins would look bad. What's your opinion about it?

to the CCF!

Most sets are better accepted if all of the coins have the same toning. A toned coin is fine, but it can be a bit detracting to the eye. When I see a single toned coin in a set, I usually tend to look at it more closely than the others, but I'm really not sure of why. It isn't a rule that all of the coins have the same toning, so it's really up to you.

When I filled a set of Carson City Silver Dollars, I made it a point to not place some coins that looked too good.
The collection looked better when they were all similar.
On the other hand, if a Dansco Album had nothing but the best eye appeal coins, then I'd avoid buying or inserting lesser quality pieces.

If you like the variation, do not worry about it! It is ultimately up to you.

I can say that if it mixing were against the rules, almost all my sets would break them.

It's a matter of personal preference. I'm not bothered by some tonal variation, others are. No right or wrong, ultimately.

As already said, it depends only on you. But sometimes it is very difficult to get all the coins +/- of the same condition. Therefore, I recommend not to dwell on it. If you find a coin that you like more, then you can always sell your old coin.

For me, it would be more important to have coins of similar grade (say circulated vs. uncirculated) in a set, than toned vs. untoned.
