Nice example of this type. Light toning over its brass surface. Fully struck and free of major contact marks. Hard to find this type struck from a fresh die.
On the obv it reads military government at the top, Szechuan copper coin in the middle and worth 50 cash at the bottom. The rev reads the first year of the republic. The last image shows the anti counterfeit technique used on this coin which is similar to anti- counterfeit hologram when tilted at an angle.

Very nice, the sharpest I have seen - thanks for posting it.
On these I have a hard time figuring out the date. 1912 is Year 1 but I don't see a 1? I see the 50 at the bottom of the first picture but within the circle it looks like a 4 above and a 3 below the center flower. What am I missing?

This post comes as a welcome surprise to me beause I am buying modern Chinese coppers.
Counterfeits are a plus. My collection of ancients is pretty well set. Copies of ancients also the same.
Junk copies of supposed real silver dollars- pretty well covered.
So now I'm looking for coppers.

Great question, the date is not displayed numerically but Chinese characters instead on the rev. Image below should solve your question.

I'm pretty sure I have one of these coins. They're nifty.

As far as the dating goes, I posted a while back about dating Japanese coins, and pretty much the same applies for Chinese. The first year of a calendar era uses a specific character.

Note that Sze-chuan means "Four Rivers". The character for river is three vertical strokes, where the numeral 3 is three horizontal strokes. This gets confusing because there is another style of Chinese numerals, in which vertical strokes are used, but these appear on coins only with exceptional rarity.

Great replies - I have learned a lot!
I have 3 that are all first year. None anywhere near as nice!
Is this one a small or large flower in the obverse center?
