The mark across Hamilton's nose might be the least of the problems for this note. The note is stained and dirty because of heavy circulation.

I'm curious why you pointed out the stain across the portrait but didn't mention the red stains in the left corner area. That's what I saw first, before reading your thread.

it looks like a shadow from a double fold that goes up to the corner.
