I found this nice token that is unlisted in Tokencatalog and the only reference to Hoffman's Pool room are from court cases in New York and Michigan

New York 1914

"Q. He used to go into Hoffman's pool room,
didn't he? A. No.
"Q. Now, this fellow who was shot that night, what
was his name? A. I don't know his name.
"Q. Don't know his name ? A. The first name,
Jimmy. That's all I know.

Michigan 1918

Q. When you were out at the farm that day did you
make any explanations at the time about your ownership of this hose in question here, or just go and take it ?
A. I talked with Mr. Drake about the hose. Yes.
That was up to Hoffman's pool room. That was before
I took it. Hoffman's pool room is at 16 South Jefferson
St.

This token is not listed in a Michigan trade token reference I have. Anyone have a New York reference?

dar, I found both of those references online also. When I want to attribute a token on tokencatalog, I will only do so if I have a newspaper ad or article directly referencing the establishment. In this case, it seems that there could be two establishments with with the same name - I couldn't quite tell from the transcripts. I couldn't find anything on the Library of Congress newspaper search page. Perhaps someone with a subscription to newspapers.com could help out.

I've found a few other locations that could fit with this name. Someone found one metal detecting in Illinois. But he also found a Philadelphia transit token at the same site so that makes it trickier :)

Interesting though that the Treasurenet token is E.A. Schmidt with the Olive St. address. I found some info from a TAMS journal that could help narrow this down by date. c. 1931-1940, to 1965.

Just as an example there was a Hoffman Pool Room in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1951.

------------------------------

From this we can date the E. Schmidt tokens
to 1890-1895. Since there are no known tokens with
A. E. Schmidt at 326 or 328 Market, the E. Schmidt
tokens might have been made as late as 1911. It is
also possible that A. E. Schmidt tokens with the Mar-
ket Street address exist but simply have not yet been
reported. A. E. Schmidt tokens with 1111 Pine
address can be dated to 1912-1921. Those with
1809-1811 Olive can be dated to 1931 to the 1940s.
As mentioned before, those tokens without address
were made in the period 1940s to 1965.

It seems all of the Hoffmans's Pool Rooms had a crime problem.
