So ive found this 2006 quarter with what looks like excess material on the obverse side, as well as some damaged edging on both sides. I would like to know if it is a minting error or if it could be worth collecting or selling. Or if I should use it on laundry day (only joking)

@mre, first welcome to CCF. Second, that is all damage: mechanical damage perhaps paired with high heat to get that bubble on the front of the coin.

Yes, very severe damage--likely of a blunt force nature.

Curious... We've seen a few similarly damaged quarters just this the last week or so.

If I found that coin I'd add to my Misfits collection to take it out of circulation!

Almost all odd coins you find in circulation will be post mint damage. Coins spend very little time at the mint being made where relatively few errors can happen. However coins can spend up to a century or more being tossed around and beaten up an almost infinite number of ways when circulating. The concept that every odd looking thing might be a valuable coin error wastes a lot of time for people and gives them a lot of disappointing replies. This relatively new "fad" is due to so many non-error coins being put on ebay and click bait youtube videos. Funny colors, most weird marks, dents, missing letters, splotches, discolorations, etc. are typical of damage and not collectable errors.
