Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has ever seen or know the rarity of a 1919 Standing Liberty quarter with some major die file lines behind liberty's head. only thing I can find was one that sold on Heritage and described as "The elusive "spiked Head" Variety" . I can find no mention of it in any variety references anywhere. Thanks ahead of time!

Do you have a link to the one on Heritage. A spike head usually means a die crack and your coin does not look like a die crack. Appears to be die scratches, Feeder Finger Damage? John1

It is a speedy head or spiked head as listed in Clines SLQ book 4th edition page 137. It is also listed in the Knauss book on varieties and errors of SLQ's . I have 7 examples myself of this variety. Neat to have.

Here's one on Heritage. https://coins.ha.com/itm/standing-l...bnail-071515 Two of them are listed as having file lines or file marks. Quote: ...the importance of this piece resides in a series of heavy die file lines in the field behind Liberty's head, slanting up toward the left. Examples of this date from the filed die are quite rare, especially in Mint State.

beautiful coin fascinating die markings would love to see reverse. Unfortunately Clines writings and publishing work on SLQ's are not on the free library at neuman numistic portal...Will soon buy his 4th edition out of curiosity for series.

Thanks for the info so far, does anyone have any idea what the premium would be for this variety? I do plan on selling it.

Coinfrog.....so a negative 2% premiun then? That 1919 MS66 FH sold on Jan 13th 2022 for $2820---- The next comparable sale was May 4th 2023 for more--$2880 -$60 divided by 2820= a 2.2% negative premium for this "rare" variety. I think Heritage was blowing smoke when they were trying to sell theirs.
