Does anybody know what the prices for the complete 2009 proof and 2009 uncirulated mint sets will be? Also, do you think the demand will be so high that they will sell out fast? Thanks

I don't think the prices have been released yet.....or even a specific release date I don't believe. No, I don't guess these Uncirculated Sets will sell out at all. In fact, I bet you'll be able to still purchase this Set in early 2010 of next year.....or at least into the late fall/early winter of this year It will be a big beautiful worthy Set to have IMHO with more coins than ever before in U.S. Mint history.......but probably not a fast sellout though. I think the premiums should be mildly pleasing on these in the future, however, and I plan to at least order 2 or 3 of them. I'll keep one for the collection, and then maybe "gift" one or two of them. If there is a skyrocketing after market run on these.....I may change my mind on the "gifting" thing perhaps !.... ......only time will tell on that though. As far as the 2009 Proof Set and/or Silver Proof Set.......they'll always be worth at least the issue price in my opinion....but I'm buying them each year regardless, so..... Having the 95% Coppers included in these Proof Sets and Silver Proof Sets will make the Mint have a great year of profits in sales on these....but I'd be surprised if they ran out of these quickly ! The excitement over the new Cent design " could" certainly make the Proof and Silver Proof Sets sell faster than the previous 9 years did......but I just really don't think you need to worry about being "one of the lucky few" to be waiting at 12:01 p.m. Eastern time to get your order in at the Mint !! And Silver will always be Silver....and numismatically, a very high quality. What's not to like ?.... Nobody can confidently look to the future and predict amazing high values beyond issue price for these Sets very often. Occasionally things come down the pike like the Special Lincoln Set is getting some exciting talk.....but ........you just never really know !

Let's just guess right, here and right now that the prices will be about $5 more than last year.

With the way the economy has been over the past year and the run on bullion silver American eagles, the mint might not produce a proof or uncir silver or gold American eagle this year. If they do not there will be a gap in my peoples collections. I am waiting just to buy a few myself because I do think it will be a VERY hot coin later down the road. I still cant get over how much the 2008 American eagle silver proofs are going for now. What I did is added a subscription on the mints website for several proofs when they are released, that way I am sure to get one. That is if they make them this year..

Question, We know that the Mint will include Bronze Cents in the 2009 Proof Set, and they have alluded to adding "collector versions" to the uncirculated coin sets as well. Has there been any official announcement as to if, when, and how these Bronze Lincoln Cents will be released? I have a feeling that if the Mint does produce uncirculated versions of the Lincoln Cents in Bronze for their Mint Sets, the production will increase dramatically for 2009, or there will be a sell out if it doesn't. It may not create a major rarity or even a "key" to the Lincoln series, but it will definately be a instant semi-key, something we should all be prepared for. I for one, am eagerly awaiting more news about these Bronze Cents. ~ Jim

The uncirculated sets will also have the bronze cents in them - from the US Mint web site: Quote:The 2009 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin SetŪ includes two envelopes of 18 coins each; one from the United States Mint at Denver and the other from the United States Mint at Philadelphia, for a total of 36 coins. Each envelope contains four Presidential $1 Coins, six quarters from the District of Columbia and United States Territories Quarter Program, as well as four Lincoln cents (with an alloy consisting of 95% copper, 3% zinc and 2% tin that matches the alloy used in the 1907 cent), the Jefferson nickel, the Roosevelt dime, the Kennedy half-dollar, and the Golden Dollar featuring Sacagawea.

Thanks KenKat, now watch these sets take off in price! I wonder if the Mint will put restriction's on the number of sets per household? Any thoughts on that? ~ Jim

Not sure, Jim. Usually, it takes awhile for the proof and mint sets to sell out.
I usually buy a clad proof and an uncirculated set every year but I bumped my subscription on the uncirculated set up to two sets because I want to be sure I get one of each design of the Lincoln cents P + D for my album.
If I can get them from circulation, I might re-sell the duplicate set.

I bumped my usual subscription up too. I want them coppers ! This year I'll get 3 - Uncirculated Sets, 3 - Proof Sets, and 3 - Silver Proof Sets. I may "gift" some of these....I may "crack" some of these......I may just keep and hoard some of these. I wonder how many Sets HSN will be buying just for these "coppers" ? Twenty thousand ?......more ?.....

The thought of HSN hyping up the 95% copper cents disturbs me. But you know how I feel about cracking sets!

Quote:The thought of HSN hyping up the 95% copper cents disturbs me. Yeah......I just imagine how many Sets they'll "acquire" so that they can get at those Copper Cents and make their "cherry wood" display case sales presentations and all that other stuff....... rolls of the 95% Coppers all graded too of course, etc. etc. etc. etc....who knows how many creative ways they will "package" these.....it'll be quite the sight to see I bet ! They'll of course happily crack the other coins too since they can increase their profits immeasurably by "parting out" these coins. But "the hype" they have been and will put on these Copper Lincolns will be more massive than the "State Qtrs" maybe !......regardless....it'll be very interesting to see how much money they put on their "lincoln materials" in the near future !.......(laughable & disturbing all at the same time !)
