1921-Peace-Dollar-Rim-Error?

My dad gave me this Peace dollar and I'm trying to find out if the right outer rim is a strike or mint error that anyone has seen ? Thank you!

@tig, first welcome to CCF. Second, while it is a little hard to see the coin clearly through that flip, it looks to me like the rim has been damaged.

It does appear to be damage...but it's very odd the the obverse lettering in LIBERTY is still visible? The edge of this coin should have reeding all along the rim...is there reeding along the edge of the area in question?
Can you tell us the weight of this coin? Is it the same size as another Peace dollar? Does a magnet stick to it?
Some better pics would surely help...

Damage - I assume it was in a jewelry piece, and then taken out.
