If you have been following the thread on the "Whitman Flip", this is the coin. It turns out to not be a split planchet (I had my doubts about that anyways) but the fissure is a cool error. The reverse had some blue-green corrosion which mostly came off in an acetone bath thankfully. Unfortunately the texture of the reverse has taken some corrosive damage. It does appear the steps are there though. I might be wrong on which error this is but I think this either is or is related to a ragged fissure.

Thx for following up with us on this coin and I'm glad that it has largely cleaned up. Do you think the blue-green goop was PVC?

Could be, but why would only one side be affected?

but could this be a defective planchet?

Yes, a ragged fissure, notch, clip, or perforation are types of defective planchets.

Well done and thanks for the follow-up thread. Really nice example

So are you leaning towards the "streaky" discoloration being from improperly mixed?
The "streaky" discoloration must have been what was making it appear to have split after being struck.

Maybe a Linear ragged fissure?

Nice pick up. I think the discoloration is linked to the fissure. The streaks run the same way .

Well could be a million different situations, but one that comes to mind is that this was stored in a PVC flip along with a small rectangle with information about the coin. The side touching the plastic got the streaks while the side touching the paper didn't. In the end, it still looks pretty cool and that is really the important thing, right?
