A random pick I made recently. You would think for proof coins they would just replace the die when it got too worn but there are a fair number of proof coins out there where they just tried to recut the die and ran with it. I find most seem pretty poorly done.

Wow, was this a vintage roll hunting pick? That seems like a real challenge to spot!

Thanks folks! And not a roll find, but just an ebay pick. It all depends on the light angle to see these, as if the light is right they just jump right out something wrong.

Well done TB. Congrats.

There are 4-5 re-engraved dies in the Lincoln Cent series that are proof.

At the link, go to the far right of the Obverse Variety page and look for RED (Re-Engraved Design).

Click on the "RED" and it will show the variety with markers.
1939, 1950, and two in 1953

Rather than touching up a worn die, it appears that this enhanced lapel was in response to overly aggressive polishing of the proof die before installation.

Maybe the die tech was afraid to tell his boss that he messed up and over-polished a die, so did a bit of midnight engraving to save it.
