I got this from my dad and not sure what's going on with this. Any ideas?

It is very strange. I've had it under a magnifying glass and it almost looks folded but the diameter is true. But nothing is off on the other side.

All I can think of is some sort of die ejection damage? Or struck through tiny corrugated metal? It's weird how some design elements appear to be dragged across the coin.

Weird, I have never seen anything remotely looking like that, and I've been around the coin circuit for more than a few decades now...

I'm thinking PMD due to the rim around the weirdness being also squashed down and the fact the ripples go through the fasces as well, and it's so worn, but could possibly be caused from a strike through via cloth or a bit of similar material?

Yep I'm stumped.

Thanks for the thoughts! I've worked around metal most of my life and haven't seen damage like this. I have no idea how it could be made and leave other untouched. The"ripples" really amazed me.
