I we can't get the fakes for our 'black' collections, for our own education, then
pics posted here, in the CCF, are the next best thing; besides they come with some very educative comments.
Thanks.

A)First, it would appear that the obverse was designed from a real coin, B)as the mint mark position seems to match and although mangled the mint mark font is pretty close. After that, it goes downhill fast. The easiest way to nail this one down is with the V.D.B. It has two problems. C)First, the whole thing is too far to the left as the initials should be more centered. D)Second, the dots which look bizarre, are not in the right places. Particularly the dot between the D and the B should be centered and it is not.

A) Counterfeit 1909-S VDBs are frequently made by using a genuine 1909 VDB (Philadelphia mint) and adding the mint mark. This often accounts for why the mint mark is an odd shape or not in a recognized genuine position.

B) This mint mark does not match any of the 4 recognized genuine mint mark positions. Pretty close does not count.

C) The V.D.B. is not too far left. The initials were not centered, and were in fact to the left of centered.

D) You are right about the placement of the dots in the VDB. Every genuine 1909-S VDB I have ever seen has the dot between the D and the B centered between the two letters. However, Philadelphia mint coins with VDB almost always have the dot close to the D.

My conclusion: This is a Philadelphia mint coin with an added mint mark.

Very interesting analysis from NSS.

I agree that some of Phil strike the D abd B dot more close. The MM is clear that do make no sense.

I ask NSS to tell me his profound analysis on the letters USA which IMHO no not fit the Design. Just for couriosity because on forensic when I was with them was one of the first we analyse.

Very interesting point of him, but no version of fake coins which for me it is an important line. Very good post to go to the bottom.

PS: Thank for your best wish. I will stay here another month. My fiends here take seriously care of me and friends or not also strict. From 12 of September is long time for me. Thanks Guys.

Started organizing my fakes and counterfeits a little better. Put all the 1 cent "coins" in a single folder. Here are the results for 1909

1909 VDB - Chinese
1909-S - altered date 1919-S
1909-S VDB
4 Glued on mint mark
2 Chinese
1 Struck
1 Cast
1 Off Center, not sure who made these
