Hi there,

I have a 1976 mint set that I just noticed that there is some doubling on the reverse of the bi-centennial quarter. I think it is MD but I thought I would get some expert opinions on it just in case. Any help from a trained eye would be appreciated. Please excuse the quality of the pics. The coin is still in the mint packaging and I was taking pics through it, I cleaned up the pics the best I could. The yellow color is toning on the coin.

Machine doubling, perhaps a bit of Die Deterioration working its magic as well.

I was afraid it was MD. I had my fingers crossed hoping someone would see something I didn't. That sure would be nice to have a DDR on a bi-centennial quarter in a mint set. Maybe next time. Thank you all for the help and comments I truly appreciate you all giving me your time. And thank you for all the warm welcomes!

I also appreciate the comments on the pics. If anyone is interested I use a digital microscope with a built in HD camera. It works great for examining coins and taking those close view pics. I'm sure you guys probably have something similar. I had some problems with glare from the light on the mint packaging and had to clean them up some. A good clear pic can make all the difference. Just glad everyone was able to view them with no issues.

Hyer:
Yes eliminating the proper amount of glare is one of the most important things in coin photography.
You are doing a very good job so far. Taking coin pictures that are in plastic holders or in 2X2 coin holders
is very tough because it can distort the coin's detail's. Always try to get photos with coins out of holders
whenever possible. Good luck with your coin hunting! Read up on Machine Doubling & DDD, it will help
you make more accurate assessments of your coins and possible errors & varieties.
