Greetings everyone! I have purchased a large lot of Chinese 20 cent (1 mace and 4.4 candareens) coins from China's Empire period at a recent estate auction. I'm questioning their authenticity since these would be very rare coins if they are genuine.

None are magnetic, sound like silver when gently dropped on a wooden table, and the two pictured here both weigh 5.3 grams. However, the planchets on both don't appear uniform with one side appearing thinner than the other. I'm not sure what quality controls were like at the Chinese mint in 1908, but I think this may be an indicate I'm looking at a fake.

In addition, the dragon engraving on the front has 5 small teeth in between the larger fangs on either side where the certified examples I've found the dragon only have three small teeth. I'm sure the mint used multiple dies to produce these but have not found any examples with more than three small teeth.

Any thoughts on their authenticity? I have a batch of coins ready to head off to PCGS so I may include these since they're the authorities on authenticity, but didn't want to waste my money grading something that was obviously not genuine to a more trained eye. Many thanks for your help!

@jmac, I would assume that they are fake unless you can show otherwise. Having design discrepancies and non-flat flans certainly isn't a good indication of this being real. You could determine the specific gravity next to see what alloy it comprises.

If you can provide one clear well focused large pic of one coin per post, I can compare it to mine.
I have multiple 20 cent collections: one of them where all coins are attracted to a magnet, one where non are, and one mixed.
