Hello,

I am interested in what you think may be 'going on' in that field above the 'ONE'.

Please check out my photo attempts of that area:

The coin has circulation wear. But based on the way the lettering is beginning to melt towards the rim, I would hazard a guess that this is a late die state, and those wavy lines are radial flow lines on the die.

Thanks John1,

It could be a fingerprint. I see a ridge of sorts running vertically alongside that tone change; like a spine.

no pushed up metal that I can see. The obverse I think is kind of weird also. I took pictures of it in your 'TEST' section of this site. I was experimenting with uploading photographs there.

ijn1944 If I bend the light in a way I see texture. The coin is so dirty: It needs to be conserved...

If there is nothing going on with the metal surface of the field, then it's just toning caused by contact with something.

Thanks rmpsrpms,

What I meant by 'no pushed up metal'. I was not clear and apologize.

I do see a ridge, but it does not appear produced by a 'hit.' ( PMD) I am going to get a photograph of this yet...
