I just found in my pocket change an error penny. I have never seen an error like this before and I have been checking pocket change almost my whole life because my grandfather taught me a lot about the value of coins and to always look for them. This particular Lincoln Penny is I'm guessing a 1974 penny no mint mark. But in place of the 7 in the date is a Y. Has anyone ever seen any coins like this? How much would anyone guess it would be worth? Any advice on where to take it or to sell it possibly for what it is worth? Along with the date misprint there are also letters stamped all over the front and back if you look closely. Also there are some misprints on the back as well. I'm trying to load pictures on here but am having some issues. Thank you for any info, input, or help with this. I greatly appreciate any help or advice! Thank you! I look forward to hearing any feedback!

Given the images posted, I believe I'm seeing a good deal of post-strike damage--lots of hits/dings, some of which have moved metal.

I don't think it's post damage. If you look closely there are letters all over the front. And some on the back. First coin I've ever seen like this. The photos dong do it justice. I tried to take the best ones I could though. Just hard to make a photo show what you see in person.

There is no way for this to happen at the mint. This is post strike damage.

I know it is hard to accept that this is just a damaged coin when you see letters but believe the facts and let go the illusions. Fact; the mint can not make such a coin with what you think you see. Thanks for sharing your coin with us and find more interesting ones like this, it is good conversation.

It would appear that the top center of the 7 took a big hit - note the crater in the middle of the 'v' the metal got moved around and some of it piled up to create this apparent 'Y'

HarleykhaosXO, I agree with PMD. Also, too many photos. In the future start out with one full coin photo front and back along with one or two close ups where and when needed. If we need more pics we will kindly ask. John1

to the CCF Yep - all I see is a badly damaged coin that also took a big hit to the 7 in the date. Value is 1 cent.

Quote: I don't think it's post damage. You can see plain as day that the metal was damaged and moved. You can see the gouge where the metal was and the lump where it went.
