I recently acquired this War Nickel set and was just curious if anyone knows where they got the nickels inserted into these holders/envelopes? I mean did they just pluck them out of circulation, at least thats how they look? I notices some issues, maybe lamination, on 2 of the nic's, the '43 & '44 P's, on the obverse, will include both if it's OK with moderators

Just looks like circulation coins to you huh frog? Crown seems odd for a company selling American coins

They were probably inserted into that holder long ago using well circulated coins.

But I sure do like that one with the Lam on it..

They pretty much all looks circulated to me. Do you have any reason to believe the Crown logo has anything to do with Britain? It's followed by the US "TM" mark.

No not necessarily GB, it's just an odd name for an American coin company, just my humble observation, plus the fact that it's just "Crown", no "collectables" or "coins", or "inc.", following the name?

Also, I noticed the lam on the '43 and the pics don't show it as well as through the naked eye, but the lam seems to run with the stripes/lines, from what I'm assuming is improper alloy mix! Those 2 events are just coincidence, or is there a reason for that?

The War Nickels are not usually considered woodies but the same concept, just different metals not mixed correctly and yes, they will be hand in hand sometimes. Scroll all the way to the end and read the last paragraph.

I remember these holders being sold and you put the coins in yourself. I had one in the early 70's I believe.
