Hello, I am very new to the coin checking game, and have been using my fairly cheap digital microscope to look at coins around the house, when I came across this:
Penny-With-Strange-Raised-Area-Near-The-Rim
Penny-With-Strange-Raised-Area-Near-The-Rim
Penny-With-Strange-Raised-Area-Near-The-Rim
This strange raised area on the coin that seems to only be on this side, would this be damage from heat, or something else entirely?
Sorry for the quality, I don't have a better microscope presently :(

It looks like a plating issue or Ridge Ring.Your photos are fine.

I think your photos are great. Focus int the first one may be a bit off but the second two show decent detail I am curious as to what make and model device you are using and also would like to know the date and mint of the coin.

First, welcome to CCF. Second, yes please always include date and mintmark info as this helps with the CCF search functionality.

That would be a gimungous plating bubble so my best guess is Ridge Ring. Can it be depressed at all with the tip of a wooden toothpick?

Full, large and sharp photos of the obverse and reverse might provide better context. As it is, the feature appears to be the infamous Ridge Ring, which is evidence of Die Deterioration. Interesting that the feature appears to be truncated at both ends, rather than fading away in a subtle fashion.

To CCF! You have what we call Ridge Ring. It's from the die getting worn.

Thank you everyone for your help! : D I will try to answer all questions!
http://goccf.com/t/456126#3949449
the scope and camera is a Skyear 4.3" digital microscope. The penny is a 1988 with no mint mark.

I can't seem to affect it by pressing on it much personally.
Thank you all for your answers and advice :)
