Recovered a 17-coin spill (1910's - 1940's) metal detecting last week - all coins currently being reviewed.

This Merc - which is still going thru my conservation process - has the VP-001 RPM. Between PCGS and NGC, only NGC will attribute it and their population is super low (only 2 at AU55). Is this a result of rarity or just a low value that precludes slabbing becomes the question.

What I'm trying to determine is potential value. There is no slab sales data to be had, a few ebay listings in the 200-400 range but no closed.

Any pointers/resources for determining whether or not to pursue an NGC slab would be appreciated. Obvisously, this is dependent on how the final coin conservation plays out. Currently I believe the results will be good.

There's only one coin on Heritage that mentions RPM from ~20 years ago and it's not listed in CPG (5th edition), so I'd have to guess there isn't a lot of interest in them. ANACS shows 25 in their pop report as "D/D" (not FB) and another 22 (not FB) listed as RPM-1 through RPM-4; I don't know which of these yours would be, guessing RPM-1 which shows 2 regular and 3 FB. If you want it attributed, ANACS is probably a cheaper way to go.

Thx kbbpll, I need to start looking at ANACS resources too. Just don't consider them enough.

This Merc is 001, confirmed on VV and NGC. Might be worth getting attributed by ANACS and keeping. Given the population at ANCS v. NGC I think we can assume value/interest is low.

ANACS is probably the best bet.

I don't believe it will grade straight. Too many scratches.

Overall I'm surprised with what came out of hiding. Luster - while broken in some spots - is strong. I think it has a good chance of straight-grading mid to high AU.

Following are different lighting shots. My scope has the toughest time dealing with high luster coins. It looks so, so much better in hand. This is what I will have ANACS attribute/grade.
