Picked this up from a dealer at a coin show. I bought a variety quarter off him and we were talking varieties and he mentioned he had one I might be interested in. I gawped at the price he had on it but he didn't have much in it and sold it to me for a quite low price. Seems these are pretty rare in any MS grade. This will go to PCGS and I am hoping for a 64. 1941 Mercury dime doubled die - DDO-002, FS-101

That is a real beauty, both the coin overall and the doubling. For those interested, the Variety Vista listing for 1941 10c FS-101 DDO-001.

That UST is a dead giveaway... "little" disturbance right in the middle of the center band...but seen worse get the FB designation. Nice pick up! 64 sounds right. Looking fwd to the results! smat

Thanks folks! Been gathering some other things for PCGS so this one can get into the long process sooner rather than later.

Well it's back and far better than expected. PCGS dropped a grade of MS66 on the dime, making it the new POP 1/0 coin for the variety. Hadn't expected that but, well, for sure am not complaining.

Great result! Curious if you just submitted it once raw with the variety mentioned or was it submitted without the variety initially then sent in already graded a second time to add it on? I have heard of varying results depending on how one handles the process.

Well personally I thought it was pretty darn close to FSB and should have received that, but I am not that familiar with grading Mercury dimes so I'll take them at what they put on it. As for submissions, I also hear rumors that submitting a coin without the variety noted first is a way to get a better grade up front. I just can't see why that should matter and so always submit coins once and with the variety listed and paid for. I get plenty of high grades and top POP coins without going through two submission cycles.

Knockout, but doesn't look like FSB in this pic.
