Had a chance to pick this up for $52 and thought it was a good deal. Note looks to be about VF25 to me. Am I wrong? Worst I can do is to lose $32 and spend it at the grocery store.

Nice - is the only fold the upper right corner? If so I would grade it higher.
But this is not really a strong area for me, so hopefully some more experienced members will comment.

Will post in-hand photos once I get it. Looks like Christmas shipping is starting to overload the USPS. Waiting on a few things, this note included.

I like the old school Whitehouse on the back, before the updated engraving showing the newly built balcony and the trees maturing. Lemme know if you decide to spend it.

Steve - good eye on the pre-Truman balcony engraving. I'd say mid-VF is about right, but it's notoriously difficult to grade paper money from scans.

Note arrived today. Not unhappy at all for the money, but SteveInTampa's suggestion of side lighting shows more circulation than the direct lighting pictures. First pic is direct, second side lighting. Makes me really appreciate how difficult it is to figure a grade from a photo, especially when it's so simple to hide flaws.

I've decided that learning about currency collecting is like learning how to play poker: bring your money, we'll teach you.
I'm thankful to have found and be involved in this forum and to benefit from those who know much more than I do. That said, I'm still OK at $52. Fair price, I think. SteveInTampa, you're the man - thanks for that tip.

Glad you're with us Blastenpene4. You're not wrong. The note looks VF25 to me as well. It also has some yellow stains and small black spots. Maybe you overpaid some but not a lot.

It's almost impossible to accurately grade a note by images posted online. Imagine how convenient and fast it would be if you could send images to third party grading companies to grade your notes.

So I have a question to ask about this note and paper currency in general: is it OK to take a note such as this, with some wrinkles, and use a press or a stack of books to flatten the note out? I'm experimenting with this one, since it's not particularly valuable. I've put it between two sheets of white paper in a stack of books for the past few weeks. It is definitely flattening out the wrinkles. I'll post pictures after another couple of weeks. Comments?

It's doubtful you'll see any difference whatsoever.
