I'm going to keep it simple this year and just buy what suits my fancy at the moment.. (plus all my usual Mint subscriptions)

I started off the year hoping to participate more within CCF. My collection goals are aligned with that, and I hope to pick up more dated coins to help out with How Far Back Can We Go. As we come to roadblocks, I will try to hunt down affordable examples, to keep the flow going. Also joining in more with other contests. So far so good.

My goals are: Getting rid of cull/AG/dirty/damaged/and very worn Lincoln wheats bought in ebay lots, and replacing them with better quality specimens. I would like to collect every year and mint mark that looks good to me, but that may not happen. Really just collecting better quality (not necessarily BU) coins overall. Eye appeal is primary. I won't collect a worn, AG coin just because it's a key date; I say that now, but you never know. I'm also interested in collecting some world coins, like 1800's Centavos (Argentina), Canadian cents from 1800's and early 1900's, and the beautiful Silver 500 Dram 1 oz. Armenian Noah's Ark (Armenia). I also have old US currency from 1928 and 1953, and my recently acquired 2017 500 Dram - Noah's Ark (Armenia) bank notes. Gotta love that Noah's Ark/Ararat/Urartu/Armenia connection!

My collecting goals have recently changed. I like putting together complete sets so I'm going to concentrate on filling a few gaps in my Britannia, Maple Leaf and Libertad collections. It will take time and a lot of searching but I don't want to start anything new until I've gone as far as I can to complete these sets.

We are in the last week of 2024 Q1. Get those reports ready!

Just to update my goals I've downsized to 7 coins for 2024. I just put a 1893-s Morgan on layaway so ouch..... there goes my hobby money. This will complete my Morgan set with the exception of a couple overdates. I will purchase the 2024 Morgan in unc, reverse proof and proof plus the 2024 Peace dollar in unc, proof and reverse proof. Maybe Ill start roll hunting to satisfy my need to acquire coins.

@hfj, that's great progress! For me: 1. Continue to add early dated/datable coins in the 1400s, 1300s and "decade coins" earlier. Won a Brabant coin dateable to 1382 in this month's Elsen auction. 2. Continue to grow collection and knowledge of saints on medieval coins. Last year I added 15 in this theme. Have added three in this theme: - the earliest representation of St. George on a coin, from Crusader States/Antioch. Here is the Numista version: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces50906.html - an 11th century denar from the Archbishopric of Trier: http://goccf.com/t/461905 - A Papal States teston with Mary Magdalen and Christ (third coin in March 27 post here: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...ic_id=315476 3. Continue work on Numista catalog. Looks like I have added about 60 or 70 new coins to the catalog (now at 1213), mostly medieval Italy and Ireland, Low Countries, a few others from here and there . I'd like to get a bit more disciplined about my spending. Running about 25% lower than same time last year (not for lack of trying!)

I've decided to trim back my coin buying this year. I've surrendered all buying on my Canadian collecting. Pricing has gotten so high for new things from the RCM that I just can't afford to continue. I recently brought my Canadian Silver Dollar (1970-current) binder to my nearby coin dealer to see what he could do for me. I paid about $5,400 for them (missing just 4 coins); he offered me $1,200. The few circulated coins I need (1858-1960) are all 'high end' coins; mostly $100-$1000 each to buy, and I'm giving up on them also. On my USA side, I'll still buy most of the 'new' releases from the mint. However, this year I've downsized from getting rolls of new quarters to just one coin of each type/mint mark. On the circulated side of my US needs, I only need one cent, two nickles, and one dime to complete my sets, but again, all would cost close to $1000 each, so I'm no longer interested in looking for them either.

Nice work, tdziemia! It is okay to trim back, atticguy. It gives you a chance to refocus and make happier purchases!

Quote: 1. Spend more time enjoying and looking at my collection, rather than focusing exclusively on filling holes. Use this time to narrow my collecting focus and figure out what items I'd like to sell, trade, or give away. This goal is in progress. It's been a busy quarter, but I did get some quality time with my collection. My latent interest in Canadian coins was sparked again, so rather than narrow my collecting focus, I feel that it has expanded. But I'm finding other items in my collection that I can live without. I've purchased one of each! Quote: 3. Fill one hole in my Mint Sets. I purchased one Mint Set! Quote:4. Buy or trade for 2-5 modern US coins on my Want List. I've filled 14 holes so far! Quote: 5. Complete another year in my First Spouse bronze medal series set. I completed several years and am only missing the 2008 medals. Quote: 6. Continue updating my storage options and photo inventory. Keep existing inventory up to date with new purchases. Making good progress here. I'm almost finished clearing the backlog of new purchases. Quote: 7. Encourage family members to become numismatists. Working on this goal, too. Finding some good numismatic gift ideas.
