*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***Hello I am new to this coin community. I am selling a few Morgan silver dollars on ebay and one of them is a 1896 with Carson City as the mint mark. I researched and found that these coins were only minted in CC up through 1893. I attached pictures of front and back of this coin. I welcome your comments about the authenticity of this coin. Thanks! Wicodares

 to the CCF, Wicodares! If the US Mint did not strike these, then someone else did. There's a word for that. Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Looks to have the luster of a counterfeit too, regardless of the date and mint combo.

The 1896-CC Morgan does not exist  ... As you said above, the last year of them was the 1893. It does have that "off" look like a Chinese counterfeit  Might be a good idea to pull that listing off of ebay based on what we are all saying...  For all the Morgan dollars out there, vamworld.com is the go-to website for checking authenticity of the hard dates in this series to see if the key dates match with any of the known VAM varieties, and if they don't, it is an automatic altered date or outright counterfeit coin.  |
