I purchased a roll of 1$ 90% silver coins commemorative coins in an online auction. Many of the coins have an UGLY brownish toning, more like tarnish. Here are 2 of the worst coins. The remainder are not as bad, but still have significant brown color. What do you recommend as far as cleaning...I don't think anyone would purchase these individual coins in their current condition.

I would sell for melt & try again, if you aren't taking too much of a loss.

If you are going to sell them for melt, then why not try a soak in acetone first? It isn't going to change the melt value.

Might as well give them a dip. Acetone won't help, and if selling for melt dipping won't hurt.

I agree, you have nothing to lose, they will always be worth silver melt.

If you are considering selling for melt anyway, you can try a quick little bath. It will remove toning from silver. 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 cup of hot water - mix well. Pour in container and put in a piece of aluminum foil (cut to container size) shiny side down. Place coin on foil. Not recommended for value pieces.

My question would be is how much did these cost you, and you sell them for melt (spot) would you take a loss.
Your can try to sell them on ebay with that toning, some folks like heavy toning for some reason.

Acetone will not do anything to that toning, it only removes organic materials.

Sell them as bullion and move on.

Acetone was not going to help them. You need to use an acid-thiourea dip, like e-Z-est.
