It looks genuine. The date position and S mint mark match the 1899-S VAM-15 Slanted Date, S Tilted Right. VF 20/25 The many rim dings could detail the coin.

I'm leaning genuine, but I can't find an exact match to a known VAM. The date isn't really slanted like in VAM-15, and the S is more tilted. Looks closer to a VAM-14, but the date isn't quite right for that either. If it's fake, it's pretty good.

I don't like the color as it has the tone of so many countfeits floating around. In this condition this date is worth $50 or so and I wouldn't pay $50 for it.
