Good eye @gigi--that is doubling, but just one of the ones that doesn't add value. You can see this type of doubling with tired dies and the way to tell is that the doubling is always in the direction of the rim.

Testing my understanding of lesson from Spence. On this 1970 S Large date cent, the doubling is all toward the rim. This is simply Die Deterioration Doubling.
