I've bought from this dealer before and been very pleased. My concern is the black spot on the cheek and another, smaller one on the "N" of UNITED. Coin appears pristine otherwise. Neat die clashes. I have contacted the dealer to ask about the spots, no reply yet. Interested in grading opinions and thoughts on the two spots. Been looking for a nice 1861 IHC and was struck by this one, just a great strike for a coin sometimes seen with light, muddy strikes.

Scattered marks, especially across from the forehead and next to ONE, might hold this to 62 or 63. Luster is a plus.

Yeah, I may take a shot at it. Full return privileges. Other coin I got from them was nicer than the pictures. I'm not bothered by the small spots on UNITED, but I can't figure that spot on the cheek and how bad that might affect a TPG. I think it's a near $500 coin if it makes MS63. Closer to $300 at MS62. IMHO.

At MS64 that's about an $800 coin, retail. Wouldn't hurt my feelings.

No way this gets into a 64 holder.

Yeah, I think MS63 tops. Crap shoot with a TPG.

Just for comparison, here's an 1861 IHC MS64 CAC for sale on ebay for $892.50. Typical weak strike - see LIBERTY, headdress feathers at front and the bottom of the wreath on the reverse. Rusty die? Look at UNITED and AMERICA. Interesting to see this coin get this grade. Food for thought.

Interesting, thanks for that. Certainly lacks the evident hits on the OP's coin, but seems to lack flash as well. If the images are true, I'd frankly rather own the OP's coin raw than the 64 CAC, especially at the price.

63. Nice example with some clashing going on. I think it's a very attractive coin.
