This pic is horrible and the only one I have right now, but do you think this could be the Dot Reverse 1875 Indian Head cent?

Sharper closeup would help.

It's a fun story, but I have a hard time believing that they put something so obscure on the die in order to catch him. It seems unlikely that he was carefully inspecting the coins he stole to make sure he wasn't being busted. The guy was 76 and losing it mentally. And would the mint have put these deliberately altered coins into circulation? Certainly possible but I have doubts. It seems like one of the many numismatic tales that pumps up the interest and value but can never be proven. As for the OP coin, here's a real one. Seems like the dot is a lot more distinct than the one posted but it does appear to be in the correct location.

Looks like it Red but I would have to see the obverse and reverse. I've found five now. Bought one from Israel for 150 and flipped it for 1100.

Another one I found. The die crack above the first S in States extending above ited of United is the dead giveaway. You can see it in my pics. http://goccf.com/t/262628

Here are the obverse and reverse pics..... I don't see any die cracks, but some of the TrueView examples don't show them either (or they are very faint and would not show in these pics). This coin last auctioned in 2007, which is BEFORE this variety was discovered. These pics are from that auction. 16 year old digital images that are not high in resolution. The date position seems to line up form what I could see. Should have the coin in hand tomorrow and will be able to share in confidence if it is good news or bad.

Additionally, though the pics are not high resolution, there seems to be strong longacre doubling on the obverse right legend, which is another description in Rick's guide.
It's all speculative, but I have high hopes on this one. Could be wrong, but I made my decision with what I could see.

Just seeing this thread. Sorry to see this wasn't the variety. I had hopes, but the "dot" on this coin appeared slightly to the left of where it should have been for the variety.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
