Going thru a bunch of coins that were left to me and finding it very interesting. Learning the values is very tricky. Not sure but it looks like a B up close. Did I hit the jack Pot? Thanks for you insights.

Appears to be a well circulated '49 D with circulation wear/flattening. That feature in the I position is an I, just suffering from a circulation hit long ago and worn down a bit since. Copper is a relatively soft metal and is often moved/shaped when hit

What does the reverse look like?

It certainly could be circulation flattening as mentioned by @ijn, but I wonder if there wasn't a bit of a die chip there to start? It just seems like a lot of material there.

MrBub,

Please,no more photos of your screen.
Best to always remove coins from holders before taking photos when possible.
What is Bup close?
I agree with PMD.

I am going with the die chip then just worn down. The extra material looking like a B is just an illusion and of course it is just my opinion.

Was trying to say, the B up close in liberty. The front of the coin pictures were taken out of the holder. Thank you for all the opinions. I'm finding some interesting coins and learning as I search for errors.

I don't see a 49-D IIB in either Cohen or Hardy. The "I" does not look like it had a severe hit. If there is a die chip, it would be a major discovery for the BIE collecting community, but it seems odd this would not have shown up before. The shape and surface of the "chip" is fairly uniform...could it be a bit of glue or other detritus? Don't go poking at it though please.

If indeed it looks like a chip, I'd be very interested in imaging it in 3D to get a better look at the height of the features. Let me know if you are interested in me doing this.

Could be a Die Chip or a hit.

If it is a hit, then the raised metal to the right of the "I" must have come from the "I", so it should be sitting on top of the field between the "I" and "B". This should be easy to check.

It does appear that there is a lot of circulation on all of 'Liberty' so it is possible that the I got 'smeared' over to the right.
