These types of articles seem to be pushed into my feed more and more. It was clearly not written by a human and uses some of the real benefits of coin collecting and exaggerates them comically. It seems like the ludicrous mass marketing scams of common coins at astronomical prices, now with the assistance technology. The whole article looks fake. The most money ever paid for a coin was $18.9 million for a 1933 St. Gaudens double eagle in 2021. This hurts our hobby imho.

Interesting how the "article" talks about the virtues of owning such a coin but then doesn't give any information about it or how to obtain one. (Not surprising, since the coin doesn't exist.)

It's just clickbait to get you to look at all the surrounding ads.

Garbage like this is what's wrong with the modern Internet, but in this case the article cover photo is so hilariously bad I can't sincerely imagine anyone falling for it.

It's the first quarter Bill Gates earned.

In the old Scrooge comic books there was a running gag about his number one dime. It was the key to his wealth.

It's not an "article", it's a "listicle" (see 5th line); That's a new word for me, not a new body part I hope.

I'm pretty sure I saw two of those on ebay this week!
It's clickbait. Eventually that junk will clog all your feeds and search results, the way that SEO clogged everything a few years ago.

Fake news like this and the dramatized garbage you see on YouTube (most of the time) leads to many misinformed phone calls at our shop weekly. I took 2 phone calls just today alone about bicentennial quarters, both expecting exorbitant offers based on what they read online. Sad, as there's a lot of really great info out there, but far more/easier access to trash.

Bicentennial quarters seem to be a particular magnet for tomfoolery. It is one of the only coins where ebay has truly insane listings, and a large number of them. The forces of evil really struck gold when they put out the rumor that a filled D mint mark was a rare and wildly valuable mint error coin.

AI "art" is absolutely terrible at getting wording correct, it always comes out looking like gibberish or some long-lost Neptunian language from the 13th century.

Anyone else notice they used the Star Trek font on those pics?

Thanks NS for bringing up a disturbing trend that I have been noticing recently as well and was tempted to start my "ugh" thread on this very topic...

Not only that website but multiple others are just as guilty of this obviously AI written script
