Where's the wear? Nice-looking coin, especially for an O-mint. I'll say MS-63.

It has a good shot at MS-64. Better photos might confirm it.

Quote: sickpuppy78501, can you point out the circulation wear you're seeing to drop this MS coin down so far? It's not wear. I don't see any wear at all, which strikes me as odd but that's just me. But the coin has a lot of field spots and little scratches, which should knock it out of mint state in my opinion. So I thought AU, but I figured if I was looking to buy an AU coin and saw this, I'd pass it up. It's not what I would expect an AU coin to look like. If it didn't have so many spots and scratches, and if the toning wasn't so deep, that would be a different story. But as it is, I don't think the coin is aesthetically pleasing enough to grade that high.

That's comical.

I'm thinking MS-63. Privately slabbed as well.
Errers and Varietys.

It's probably my fault. My pics are so bad you can hardly see all those breast feathers on my XF coin.

this coin has not been circulated. I'm not seeing anything to say it was.
the 84(O) can be soft in a lot of cases. I think its a decent strike for the year. I think the overall look of the coin is due to how it was stored over the years.
MS63 with a shot at 64. however due to the eye appeal I would not value the coin at that. if it was mine i'd get rid of the slab but it is protecting it so its up to you

I personally find this to be quite an attractive example, but to each their own.

Agree. Toning is very nice and adds to the appeal IMO. I'm at MS63+. Maybe have it regraded by NGC/PCGS?

@sickpuppy.... When it comes to Morgans, they start losing appeal (to me) at MS63. Here's what I expect a 62 to look like.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/374943833982 so you're suggesting the OP's coin, looks worse than this?

and i'll add to coin rejector's comment regarding MS63 coins. that grade is probably the most widest criteria and allowances. just because a coin looks like this one from an eye appeal standpoint, some folks find them quite appealing like Jakes Coins. when assessing a coin. from a grading standpoint, an MS63 coin with lower eye appeal may be dropped to MS62 by a TPG. even though they look no where near like what the MS62 coin link posted by coin rejector . the main reason for the grade drop is value. one must keep in mind that a TPG grade is really assigned based on what they feel the coin could sell for. if its less than the average for the grade they will lower it. other than the toning on the OP's coin, there are no signs of circulation which would be seen around the ear and the tops of the ear itself, on the highest points of the CAP and cotton balls, typically the nose as well. on the reverse, the eagles neck and breast, talons, bows and tips of the wings. I'm not seeing that anywhere thus my grade of MS63 with a shot at 64 since there are only a couple marks on the cheek. underneath that toning the luster is hiding. to determine if the coin was closer to 64 I would need this one in hand. to see if there are any areas will broken luster which is difficult to determine using these photos.
