Hello again all! I was wondering if anyone here has seen a slab like this? I assume it is an old privately slabbed coin, maybe a coin shop? Anyways, I know there are a lot of people here with a lot more experience than I so I figured it was worth asking. Please feel free to offer opinions on grade as well. Thanks as always!

This is a privately-slabbed coin, and it is nowhere near MS64. I'd say it falls in the VF/EF range.

Thanks for the feedback sickpuppy78501. Can you tell me what about it makes it VF/EF to you? I thought at the very least it would be AU. Thanks again!

I'd say MS-63 on the grade. Agree it's likely privately slabbed.

Thanks Jakes Coins! I just checked those two out, it's very similar to the old NCI slabs, including the white spacer. Probably a fairly common slab for the period.

Thank you as well coin rejector, I am familiar with PCGS Photograde, I was more trying to make sure the slab itself wasn't anything interesting before I DESTROY it.

Thanks again all, I really appreciate the advice!

I doubt you need a better camera, even a recent-model iPhone camera is likely more than enough. What really matters, is the lighting: if you play around with multiple sources, color temperature, diffusers to avoid glare, etc. you can get very good pics.

I was going to say AU, but it's obviously been handled a lot and not well-preserved. The best it should go is XF45+. Maybe AU50 on a good day.

Thanks very much classic_coin, I've been meaning to look into some kind of lighting but something more urgent always seems to come up. I will have to try to make it a priority.

sickpuppy78501 I think you and I must have pretty different viewpoints on grading, but I will certainly take your opinion into account. Thanks again!

Given the posted images, I'm thinking low end MS. Would love to see the piece in-hand (but that won't be happening).

sickpuppy78501, can you point out the circulation wear you're seeing to drop this MS coin down so far?
